The Christian Life: Empowered by the Spirit, Part 1

December 20, 2013 | by: Josh Fenska | 0 Comments

We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells believers as a pledge of their promised inheritance. While all genuine believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit at conversion, the New Testament indicates the importance of an ongoing, empowering work of the Spirit subsequent to conversion which the believer is encouraged to pursue. The Holy Spirit desires to fill each believer continually with increased power, acting in the believer to encourage, guide, and ultimately effect growth in Christ-likeness and Christian witness. We believe this sanctification is a progressive work that begins at conversion, and, though it is carried out by the presence and power of the Spirit, it is a work with which the individual believer cooperates especially by means of engagement in active obedience, prayer, meditation on Scripture, worship, and true fellowship with other believers. Those who have been saved delight in the blessings of the New Covenant: the forgiveness of sins, the inward transformation of heart that awakens a desire to glorify, trust, and obey God, and the prospect of the glory yet to come. Good works constitute indispensable evidence of saving grace. Though indwelling sin remains, actual growth in holiness is the expected fruit of the Spirit in a believer's life.... Keep Reading

Found In Him

December 11, 2013 | 0 Comments

This past Sunday, we mentioned the book, Found in Him: The Joy of the Incarnation and Our Union with Christ, by Elyse Fitzpatrick. It's a great read for women or men, in December or the other 11 months of the year. Here's a recommendation from Jodale Lee, with thoughts about a few of the ways the book is affecting her. As I have been reading Found in Him, not only has my mind been stretched (trying to get it around the humanity of Christ) but my heart has been stretched as well.... Keep Reading

A Story of Renewal in Mike's Life

November 21, 2013 | by: Josh Fenska | 0 Comments

Over the past 11 years since I became a member of this church I have experienced my share of pain and suffering. Loss of dreams, loss of Jobs, failures as a husband and father. I have been broken, humbled, disappointed, dazed, confused, bitter and angry. And all through it I have kept seeking God and crying out for breakthrough from him. Many times it seemed that God was silent and I wondered if I ever would see the breakthroughs I was praying for. Then about a year and a half ago I began my training to be a hospital/hospice chaplain. It was here that I began to experience a warmth and acceptance from my supervisors and fellow students. They began to encourage me to be myself and not hold back in who I was and the gifts God had given me. As I began to feel safe in this environment God began to stir up the pain and grief of some hard things that have happened in my life. As I began to get in touch with these feelings I began to experience a new freedom of living in the Good of being created in God's image and being His child.... Keep Reading
