Thanksgiving on Thursday and Sunday

Post by Josh Fenska

The psalmist made up his mind: “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart” (Psa. 111:1). For God’s great works, for His righteousness, for His grace and mercy, for His provision of food, for His covenant faithfulness, for arranging redemption–and for a thousand other reasons–God is worthy of being glorified through our gratefulness (see Psalm 111).

As a church community, we want to be people who give thanks. Not just because there’s a holiday for it on Thursday, but because that’s what Spirit-filled people are led to do every day: “be filled with the Spirit…giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:18-20). Thanksgiving is an essential part of rejoicing in the Lord (Phil. 4:4-6).

Church members, this week we want to provide an opportunity for you to glorify God through giving thanks when we gather for worship on Sunday. Throughout our time of singing, we’ll have a ministry microphone available, and between songs we’ll invite church memebrs to share reasons they are giving thanks to God–whether the eternal details like being made children of God, or the very nitty-gritty details of seeing God’s provision for your family this month, or somewhere in between.

What are you thanking God for?
