Digging Deeper in Habakkuk – Part 1

Digging Deeper in Habakkuk – Part 1

As ladies are beginning to study the book of Habakkuk together this summer (individually and in women’s fellowship groups), here are a few extra questions. The guide we are recommending is  Living by Faith from Matthias Media, and the references below to question numbers are for lesson 1 – pgs. 9-14.

The portion in bold is to be included in our personal study time as well as in our discussions.

* After question 4 on pg 11,

Note the words of Jesus in Matthew 15: 5b-9.
This passage was first spoken thru the prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 29:13-14.
The ESV Study Bible says this, in reference to Isaiah 29:13-14:
“Outwardly proper worship offends God if it is a way of evading him at a deeper level (which is why Jesus quotes v. 13 in Matt. 15:8-9). But God will not be set aside.”

Let’s take time at the outset of this study to humble ourselves before God and ask:
Are there specific sins I need to confess in order to follow Him wholeheartedly and receive His cleansing forgiveness?

Are there ways I am evading God and honoring Him only with my lips and not my heart?

Joshua 22:5 and Matthew 22:37-38 are two passages of Scripture that explain what it means to love and obey God wholeheartedly.
Are there ways God is asking me to grow in loving and following Christ with my whole mind and heart?

Romans 8:31-39 is a powerful reminder that because of Jesus, our sin does not condemn us. Jesus lived a perfect life for us! He is interceding for us!

The following passages are optional for those who desire further study:

Following question 2 on pg. 10:

2b. Which of Josiah’s actions does the Lord specifically mention and bless?

What does the Bible have to say about God’s view of humility? For some verses to get started, read:

Psalm 25:8-10

Isaiah 66:1-2

I Peter 5:5-7

After first bullet on pg. 14:

King Josiah is a powerful example of a king/man who feared God and loved Him with his heart, mind and soul. God makes a covenant with King Solomon in II Chronicles 7:11-22 that He then faithfully carries out during Josiah’s reign as king. This passage reminds us that our God is Faithful to His Word and to His people!

Joel 2:12-13 is an awesome passage to meditate on, as we conclude this first study.
