RCC WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY / THE BOOK OF JAMES / FALL 2017

On your own:

Pray, asking the Holy Spirit to draw your attention to what He wants to accomplish in you – whether to repent of sin, rejoice in a promise, meditate on an insight, or praise God for His attributes.

Read the portion of James each day until we meet for Fellowship Group. Our hope is that getting into God's Word would not be a legalistic thing, but a means to commune with God, hear from Him, and devote ourselves to spending time in His presence. From our study, we pray that we'd each come away with something God is teaching us or doing in our life through the time we’ve set aside to meet with Him each day.

Questions to ask as you read the passage:

  • What are the main themes?
  • What illustrations or images are used? For what reason?
  • What directions or commands are given throughout the passage? (What does it say to do and to not do, and why?)
  • What does it say about God?
  • What can I learn about myself?
  • From this passage, what does it look like to follow Jesus?
  • James 4:6 says, "But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, 'God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.' ” How does this verse help me apply what I’m learning from this passage?

Write down a verse or a few verses that really stand out to you each day, and tell why they do. Pray through those verses.

Identify any areas of sin, lies you're believing, or places where you might need to trust or follow Him more.

Confess and repent of sin where needed, and surrender to what God is asking you to do or be.

 When we meet, we’ll:

  • Read the passage together.
  • Share what God is teaching us, how this book is challenging us, and talk through some of the questions.
  • Share things that are going well, confess & repent in areas that aren't going so well, hold each other accountable, and pray for one another.
